Drawing in a sketchbook may be a daily practice or an occasional event.  It is a view of the world that only you can create.

May 3 - May 6     Sketching as a Route to Art

Set in the casual atmosphere of historic Cape May, this workshop provides new approaches to drawing and a review of quick drawing skills.   We will settle into the seaside beauty of Cape May and use it as an exhilarating experience to inspire art on site and in the future.  All levels are welcome.
FEE:  $295 for tuition, which includes a materials fee.

Explore watercolor technique, color and design as you paint the beauty of Peters Valley on location.  Paint washes, glaze transparent layers and use the intermingling of paint and water to express the landscape as you see it.   
Step-by-step instruction is followed by painting in the field  the meadows, trout streams, ghost towns and waterfalls of the Delaware Water Gap.  Examine practices of American watercolor masters to instruct you along the way.  This class is for both beginners and artists who want to fine-tune their skills.  Call 973-948-5200 to register.

Seeing abstractly is an excellent route to reality in your art, but it also changes the way you see so that you notice wonder and beauty in everything.

There are many systems of visual theory   from the color study of the Impressionists to the physical energy of the Abstract Expressionists.  Familiarity with the development of abstraction (through three centuries!) opens new areas of pursuit.  And, it fine-tunes your eye to see visual potential as your work is in progress.
